Ekpe Ita, the Chairman of the Hall of Fame and Museum committee, announced on Friday during a press conference that the inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Saturday. He stated that the facility, situated within the institution's premises, is designed to be a significant attraction for visitors, celebrating the school's rich history and its successful former students.

According to Ita, the event will feature the induction of 60 notable personalities into the Hall of Fame. Among those being honored are Nigeria's first President, Nnamdi Azikiwe, and the current wife of Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State.

He further explained that the inductees are individuals who have excelled in various fields after passing through the institution, thereby bringing pride to their alma mater. Ita emphasized the project's considerable historical and institutional significance, particularly its potential to enrich the tourism landscape of Cross River.

"We envision tourists visiting the Hall of Fame and Museum to experience its rich offerings," he stated.

The museum section will exhibit photographs of the inductees, alongside archaeological artifacts such as ancient pottery, shards, and other relics. Additionally, historical items including trophies, books, and institutional records will be put on display. Ita pointed out that the building itself, constructed in 1894, is a recognized national monument and a heritage site.

The Hope Waddell Training Institution, established on March 8, 1895, stands as one of Nigeria's most venerable educational establishments. The institution marked its 130th anniversary in 2025.

Among the distinguished individuals to be inducted is the late Nnamdi Azikiwe, who was a student at the institution in 1922. Also recognized is David George, a former teacher who dedicated 45 years of service to the school.
