The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has urged Commissioners of Information in APC-governed states to establish a unified communication strategy. The initiative aims to properly project the policies of President Bola Tinubu's administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has charged Commissioners of Information serving across All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled states to embrace a harmonised communication blueprint. This move is designed to effectively project the policies, reforms, and programmes of President Bola Tinubu's administration as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Abuja during a strategic session with state information commissioners, Idris, who functions as the Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication in the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, emphasized the critical need for alignment between government officials and party spokespersons.

What led to the strategic meeting in Abuja?

The consultative gathering was convened to build a standard communication framework that guarantees both federal and sub-national authorities broadcast synchronized updates regarding ongoing governmental reforms and developmental milestones.

During the deliberations, Idris pointed out that effective public communication requires more than mere media appearances. He expressed concern that conflicting statements from some government representatives often undermine official positions, underscoring the urgency for tighter coordination among public information managers.

How does the government plan to sustain this media alignment?

Addressing the attendees, Idris revealed that the session marks the beginning of a continuous engagement process, with follow-up meetings scheduled within the next three weeks to consolidate the collaborative network.

Plans are also underway to incorporate state party secretaries and spokespersons into subsequent gatherings to foster synergy between government machinery and party structures.

While discussing the administration's blueprint, the minister noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda and its associated reforms require clear interpretation for the general public. He explained that these structural adjustments are targeted at revamping the economy, boosting infrastructure, and creating sustainable wealth.

He further tasked the commissioners to ensure citizens understand not just government policies, but the rationale, obstacles, and long-term benefits tied to them.

Acknowledging the hurdle of declining public trust in political leadership, Idris encouraged information handlers to embrace factual, open, and accountable messaging to restore confidence in democratic systems.

Furthermore, he advocated for the active deployment of both legacy media and digital spaces, pointing out that modern communication dynamics demand adaptability. However, he stressed that public engagement must remain a two- way channel, urging officials to actively listen to citizen feedback to refine government outreach.

Approximately 21 commissioners participated in the inaugural meeting, a turnout the minister described as promising, while adding that engagement channels would be extended to states whose representatives were absent to guarantee holistic involvement moving forward.
