A first-year female student of Plateau State University, Bokkos, who was seized by armed attackers has been freed. Her release followed intense operational pressure from a combined team of security personnel and university guards.

A 100-level female undergraduate of the Plateau State University, Bokkos, who was taken captive by gunmen over the weekend, has regained her freedom. The student was abducted from an off-campus lodge situated within the university community in Bokkos Local Government Area at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, while she and three colleagues had stepped out to make purchases.

What were the exact circumstances of the attack?

During the weekend incident, one of the students sustained gunshot injuries while attempting to evade the assailants, whereas the remaining two managed to escape without physical harm.

How was the student rescued?

The Acting Public Relations Officer of the institution, Masara Kim, verified the liberation of the student to newsmen in Jos on Tuesday. He explained that the abductors abandoned the captive due to overwhelming pressure from a joint security apparatus and the internal security personnel of the university.

"She was abandoned by her captors after the university, in collaboration with a joint security team, launched an operation that forced them to flee on sighting the advancing team," Kim stated.

Following her release, the victim was immediately rushed to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment. The university management reiterated its commitment to collaborating closely with law enforcement agencies to guarantee the protection of all students and staff living both on and off campus, while praising the security operatives for their swift intervention.
