Abia Governor Otti Assures NYSC Members of Adequate Security

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has assured the newly sworn-in Batch C Stream II corps members of their safety throughout their service year. Speaking through the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, the governor highlighted ongoing collaborations with security agencies to protect young Nigerians serving in the state.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to carry out their primary assignments with courage and without apprehension regarding security.

Governor Otti made this known on Friday during the official swearing-in ceremony for the Batch C Stream II corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Site in Umunna, located within the Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. Represented at the event by the Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, the governor emphasized that his administration prioritizes the safety of all residents, including visiting youth service personnel.

What measures are being taken to guarantee safety?

The state government is actively partnering with various security and law enforcement agencies to establish a protective shield around corps members across all communities in the state. "Let me also reaffirm the commitment of our administration to the security, welfare and general well-being of all corps members serving in this state," Otti stated, adding that collaborative security frameworks are fully operational.

Beyond security assurances, the governor encouraged the young graduates to leave a lasting, positive footprint in their host communities by initiating or participating in grassroots development projects. He also addressed infrastructural concerns at the orientation facility, pledging that the state government would urgently tackle the gully erosion menace threatening parts of the NYSC Permanent Site to prevent further environmental degradation.

Furthermore, Governor Otti reminded the corps members that the state government has already commenced the disbursement of enhanced state allowances, demonstrating a commitment to improving their financial welfare during their service year.

In his remarks earlier at the camp, the Abia State NYSC Coordinator, Yunusa Tanimu, charged the inductees to strictly adhere to camp rules and regulations. He stressed that the orientation camp operates under strict guidelines, requiring absolute discipline and profound respect for constituted authorities throughout the duration of the programme.
