Law Mefoh, the Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, stated that the state loses around N8 billion on each Monday due to the sit-at-home orders.

Mefoh shared these insights during an episode of The Morning Brief, a program broadcasted on Channels Television, while commenting on the closure of the Onitsha market as per Governor Chukwuma Soludo's directive.

He emphasized, "Let me reiterate that while there was once a fear factor, it has dissipated. For several months now, security in Anambra has been significantly improved, eliminating the basis for fear.

"What has occurred is that this fear factor previously resulted in the closure of markets every Monday, but traders have now adapted by treating Monday as an extension of their weekend. This is severely impacting the socio-economic fabric of the state.

"According to statistics, Anambra is losing approximately N8 billion for every Monday that the markets remain closed.

"This situation is critical, and from this standpoint, it is clear that the government must take action to keep the economy functioning. Those opposed to this are merely being mischievous," he concluded.
