A legal entanglement involving Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has escalated, with one of his former partners introducing evidence from another woman with whom he shares a child in an ongoing child support proceeding. Court documents reveal that Ayesha Howard, mother to Edwards' daughter, submitted a declaration from Alexandria Desroches, who also has a child with the NBA player.
Howard is advocating for the child support case to be heard in Los Angeles County. Conversely, Edwards has contended that the jurisdiction for such matters should lie within Georgia. Desroches’ declaration, as part of the filings, stated that Edwards has been remitting monthly child support payments to her, reportedly through wire transfers from a bank account situated in Beverly Hills.
Howard's legal representatives assert that these alleged payments suggest the player maintains significant connections to California, a claim that directly contradicts his argument of having no ties to the state. This case has been active for over a year, marked by disputes from both parties concerning the appropriate venue for the proceedings.
In response to Howard's actions, Edwards has petitioned the court to seal the case records and prohibit further submissions from Howard. He alleges that she has put forth "meritless and harassing motions." His attorney further claimed that the case has been manipulated for the purpose of publicly attacking the player with unsubstantiated allegations.
The lawyer elaborated on the situation, stating, "I have never encountered a litigant who has so flagrantly and repeatedly abused the judicial process." The representative characterized the entire affair as "a campaign of harassment, obstruction and extortion that has made a mockery of the court systems in two states."
Previously, a judge in California ruled that the state did not have jurisdiction over Edwards. Subsequently, a court in Georgia determined that the case should proceed within its jurisdiction and mandated that Howard cover legal expenses. The dispute remains active as both parties continue to contest the location for the court hearings and the terms of the child support arrangements.
