The [All Progressives Congress](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Progressives_Congress_(Nigeria)) [National Working Committee](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Working_Committee_(Nigeria)) has decided to prolong the terms of the party’s executive committees in Ekiti and Osun states until 28 March 2027, aiming to preserve internal unity ahead of the 2027 general election.
This marks the second time the executives’ tenure has been extended, following a prior extension granted in June. The decision effectively postpones fresh ward, local government and state congresses in the two states until after the 2027 polls.
In a letter dated 26 September 2026, addressed to the APC state chairmen of Ekiti and Osun and obtained by the Nigerian Tribune, the party’s National Organising Secretary **Sulaiman Argungu** (https://www.apc.com.ng) confirmed that the NWC approved the extension at its 195th meeting held on Saturday, 26 September.
The correspondence, titled “Notice of Extension of Tenure for Ekiti and Osun State APC Executives,” noted that the move followed appeals and requests submitted by the two state chapters on 9 September.
Senior party sources told the Tribune that the leadership weighed the proximity of the proposed congresses to the January 2027 election and chose to retain the incumbent executives to avoid internal disputes that could jeopardise the party’s election preparations.
According to the same sources, the extension also signals the APC’s determination to present a united front across the South‑West region as the 2027 general election approaches.
**What did the Ekiti state party say?**
When contacted on Sunday, Ekiti State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Segun Dipe, confirmed the extension, stating that the decision had been communicated to the state chapter by the NWC. He declined to disclose the specific reasons behind the move, but affirmed that “the APC is committed to due process and orderliness in accordance with the party’s constitution.”
**How will the party campaign in Ekiti and Osun?**
Dipe added that party leaders and executives in Ekiti, under the leadership of Governor **Biodun Oyebanji** (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodun_Oyebanji), will continue their mobilisation efforts for the re‑election of President **Bola Tinubu** (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bola_Tinubu) and other APC candidates in the 2027 general election.
He expressed confidence that the state would deliver a stronger electoral performance for Tinubu, promising that the APC would double the votes secured by Oyebanji in the 20 June governorship election when Nigerians head to the polls on 16 January 2027.
