Lawal Daura, the vice-presidential flagbearer for the Allied Peoples Movement, has asserted that party standard-bearer and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde stands out as the most capable contender ahead of the 2027 presidential elections. Daura emphasized that Makinde's demonstrable transparency, accountability, and administrative track record distinguish him favorably among aspirants.
Speaking over the weekend at the party's presidential campaign office in Abuja while hosting delegates from the Northern Patriotic Front (NPF), Daura reaffirmed the joint ticket's pledge to run a focused four-year transitional administration. He noted that this government of national unity would target structural reforms across the economy, education, security, and socio-political sectors.
What are the core priorities of the proposed transitional administration?
The planned four-year tenure is structured to achieve national reconciliation, tackle deep-seated socio-economic hurdles, and establish a stable baseline for sustainable governance. Daura challenged voters and political observers to evaluate presidential contenders objectively based on their antecedents, public service records, and prudential management of resources.
"Before venturing into politics and eventually becoming governor of Oyo State, he had established himself as a successful businessman and a man with considerable experience in finance," Daura stated, pointing to Makinde's professional background prior to public office.
Endorsement from Northern Stakeholders
Earlier during the visit, NPF President Alhaji Ali Abacha formally announced the northern coalition's backing for the Makinde-Daura ticket. Abacha cited the governor's developmental strides in Oyo State and his "Reset Nigeria" blueprint as the primary motivations for the regional endorsement.
Abacha also commended the inclusion of Lawal Daura, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), as the vice-presidential candidate, remarking that his security background reinforces the ticket's capability to address Nigeria's complex security challenges. The NPF leadership pledged to intensify nationwide mobilization efforts to ensure electoral success in 2027.
