Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, who leads the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), has issued a message urging all citizens, regardless of their faith, to move beyond mere coexistence and actively work towards constructing a nation founded on principles of justice, truth, and mutual respect.

In his goodwill message to Muslim faithful celebrating Eid-el-Fitr, the Archbishop encouraged Nigerians to embrace virtues such as forgiveness, solidarity with the less fortunate, and devotion to God as essential steps for the country’s healing and rejuvenation.

“As you mark this occasion, we share in your gratitude to Almighty God, and we pray that the spiritual gains from Ramadan will continue to transform hearts, foster greater compassion, and reinforce unity throughout our nation,” he stated.

Ndagoso lauded the Muslim community for their dedication to fasting, prayer, and charitable giving, characterizing these acts as a profound display of faith, self-discipline, and commitment to divine will.

The CBCN president noted the unique alignment this year, where both Christian and Muslim fasting periods commenced concurrently, emphasizing how this convergence highlights shared values of sacrifice, prayer, and dependence on God, thereby reinforcing the necessity for unity and understanding among Nigerians.

He further acknowledged that Nigeria is currently navigating significant difficulties, including widespread insecurity, economic hardship, and societal divisions.

In response to the persistent challenges confronting the nation, Ndagoso offered prayers for peace, protection, and divine guidance for Nigeria and its leadership, imploring them to remain steadfast in their commitment to the public good.
