Court Orders Accord Party to Recognise Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as 2027 Presidential Candidate

A Federal High Court judge in Abuja ruled that the Accord Party must acknowledge Gbenga Olawepo‑Hashim as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election and submit his name to INEC, after the party had previously refused despite receiving N50 million in nomination fees.

The [Federal High Court](https://judiciary.gov.ng/) in Abuja on Monday confirmed that [Gbenga Olawepo‑Hashim](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gbenga_Olawepo‑Hashim) is the presidential candidate of the [Accord Party](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accord_(Nigeria)) for the 2027 election.

Judge Mohammed Umar delivered a judgment stating that, contrary to the party’s earlier position, evidence shows Olawepo‑Hashim emerged as the sole candidate after a primary held on 30 May.

Consequently, the judge ordered the Accord Party to promptly recognise Olawepo‑Hashim as its only presidential contender for 2027 and to forward his name to the [Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)](https://www.inecnigeria.org/) for inclusion on the official candidates’ portal.

The court further found it improper for the party to withhold the candidate’s name from INEC after it had collected N50 million from him as nomination and expression‑of‑interest fees.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Olawepo‑Hashim filed a suit against the Accord Party and INEC, identified as case FHC/ABJ/CS/1268/2026, through his counsel Senior Advocate of Nigeria Henry Akunaebu.

In the pleading, the plaintiff asked the court to compel the party to submit his name to the electoral body as a validly nominated presidential candidate for the upcoming poll, among other reliefs.
