Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday against harassing opposition factions ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is fully geared up to protect its electoral mandates.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time program following an ADC stakeholders' gathering, Melaye alleged that the governing party relies on federal authority, security forces, and state machinery to intimidate political opponents. He maintained that the ADC would fiercely counter any such tactics during the upcoming electoral cycle.
What did Dino Melaye say about the 2027 elections?
During the interview, the former federal legislator stated that his party is adequately organized for the 2027 polls and will reject any form of electoral manipulation or rigging. Using a strong phrase to underscore their determination, he remarked, “All Die Na Die, we will defend ourselves in 2027. The ADC will not allow the APC to continue intimidation. We are ready to defend every vote.”
Furthermore, Melaye argued that citizens across the country are discontented with prevailing economic hardship, insecurity, and governance under President Bola Tinubu, positioning the ADC as a viable alternative to contest power at the ballot box.
What is the ADC's expectation from INEC?
Addressing the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Melaye urged the commission to maintain strict impartiality. He emphasized the necessity for INEC to guarantee that the 2027 general elections are transparent, fair, and credible, reflecting the true democratic will of the electorate.
