The third edition of the Dr Ofobuike Nwanku Foundation quiz was staged on 10 October 2026 at Government Technical College, Abakaliki, drawing 176 learners from 27 secondary schools and offering a total prize pool of ₦1 million. The event coincided with the birthday of its founder, [Dr Ofobuike Nwanku](https://www.linkedin.com/in/ofobuike-nwanku), a UK‑based medical doctor and chief executive of Moxie Homes & Properties Ltd.
**What were the prize allocations?**
The competition awarded ₦500,000 to the overall champion, ₦300,000 to the runner‑up and ₦200,000 to the third‑place finisher. The top prize went to Chima Testimony Ugomsinachi of King David Gifted Academy, while Nwafor Isioma Celine of St Theresa’s Secondary School secured second place, and Obu David Chigozie, also from King David Gifted Academy, earned third.
**How was the quiz structured?**
Participants answered a set of 50 multiple‑choice questions: 20 in English Language, 15 in Mathematics and 15 covering General Knowledge. Entry to the contest was free, and the questions were administered in a transparent, objective format.
**Who oversaw the event?**
The programme was directed by Comrade Polycarp Obinna Alegu, who confirmed the attendance figures and praised the teachers accompanying the pupils for noting the fairness of the process. Alegu announced that he would travel to the winning schools on 12 October to hand over the cash prizes in the presence of parents and educators.
**What motivated the founder’s involvement?**
[Dr Ofobuike Nwanku](https://www.linkedin.com/in/ofobuike-nwanku) recounted his own school‑boy experiences representing Ebonyi State in various academic contests, including the 2005 Science Teachers Association of Nigeria competition in Jos and the Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists competition in Abuja, where his team placed second. He said the lack of recognition and material rewards at the time spurred a promise to support future scholars if he ever had the means.
**How does the competition align with state policy?**
According to Alegu, the quiz complements the educational agenda of Governor [Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru](https://www.ebonyistate.gov.ng/governor), whose administration seeks to make learning more rewarding and to strengthen reading habits among youths.
**Background of the founder**
Born in Umuoghara, Ezza North LGA, Dr Nwanku began his education at Community Primary School, Ogharugo, proceeded to Urban Model Secondary School and St Theresa’s Secondary School in Abakaliki, and later earned a medical degree from Nnamdi Azikiwe University in 2018. After completing his housemanship and NYSC service, he obtained a Master’s in Public Health from Teesside University, UK, and has been practising medicine there since 2023. He also heads Moxie Homes & Properties Ltd, a real‑estate firm that creates employment opportunities for young Nigerians.
**Foundation’s broader work**
Beyond the quiz, the Dr Ofobuike Nwanku Foundation runs health outreach programmes, provides school fee assistance to disadvantaged pupils, and supports community development projects across rural areas.
The competition not only celebrated Dr Nwanku’s birthday but also fulfilled his long‑standing pledge to reward academic diligence, offering students a tangible incentive to pursue excellence.
