The ECOWAS Food and Cultural Festival (EFCF) 2026 is slated to run from 27‑31 October in Benin City, Edo State, marking the event’s second edition and a key platform for food, culture and regional integration.\n\nThe festival’s Director of Corporate Communications explained that it goes beyond a simple celebration of cuisine, positioning it as a strategic arena that links heritage, food security, tourism, creativity, enterprise, investment, youth empowerment and West African integration.\n\nGuided by the theme “African Foods, Cultural Heritage, Peace and Security for Sustainable Development, Tourism and Economic Growth,” the programme rests on three pillars – Heritage, Value and Opportunity. Heritage refers to the traditions communities inherit; Value emerges when those traditions are turned into productive activities; Opportunity arises when this value reaches broader markets, investors and tourists.\n\nThe inaugural edition took place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and the shift to Benin City reflects wider participation and heightened regional relevance. “Uyo was the beginning. Edo is the next chapter. And from Edo, the vision continues towards a wider West African audience,” the director said.\n\nWest Africa boasts a rich tapestry of food, music, fashion, crafts and festivals. Benin City, famed for the historic Benin Kingdom’s bronze and brass artistry, offers a living‑heritage destination for the 2026 edition.\n\nEmphasising the economic potential of culture, the director noted that traditional recipes can inspire new food brands, indigenous crops can become commercial products, and cultural performances can attract tourists. “From farm to food. From food to market. From market to opportunity. African food is not simply something to consume. It is something to produce, process, brand, commercialise, export and build businesses around,” he asserted.\n\nAn International Press Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, 13 October 2026 at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja, where the festival will be formally presented to national and international media, and programme details, partnerships and investment prospects will be unveiled.\n\nThe festival will also launch the “Face of EFCF” platform, which moves beyond conventional beauty pageants to highlight cultural knowledge, intelligence and leadership, creating young ambassadors to carry the event’s message beyond Benin City.
