Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has directed his political allies and supporters to halt the use of elaborate praise-singing and grandiose titles when addressing him, insisting that he prefers the simple designation of 'Mr Governor'. The directive was issued on Friday evening during the October edition of the monthly Evening of Praise and Worship event held at the Lady Jibowu Hall within the Government House in Ado-Ekiti.
According to the governor, the political campaign period has concluded, shifting the administration's absolute focus toward governance, public service delivery, and the fulfillment of electoral promises made to the populace. He stressed that political figures should never be elevated to positions or attributes exclusively reserved for the Almighty.
What specific titles did the governor reject?
Governor Oyebanji explicitly rejected exaggerated monikers such as 'Jinx Breaker', 'Owi Bee, Se Bee', 'History Maker', and 'Back to Back'. He noted that while such expressions were previously tolerated during the heat of electioneering, they have no place in an established administration focused on policy implementation and accountability.
“I think we have to put an end to all these appellations. Election is over, and from today, just address me as Mr Governor. I don’t want to hear all these appellations such as ‘Jinx Breaker’, ‘History Maker’ and all the rest,” Mr Oyebanji stated.
He further explained that he permitted the adjectives solely because it was an election season, but insisted that the conclusion of political polls marks the beginning of an era governed by responsibility rather than political adulation. He reiterated his stance against equating mortal political officeholders with divine entities.
How does the administration view its past stability?
Reflecting on the peace and developmental strides recorded across Ekiti State over the preceding four years, the governor credited divine grace as the primary catalyst. He maintained that the peaceful coexistence and administrative milestones achieved thus far are clear testaments to God's continued intervention in the state's affairs.
Expressing strong optimism, Mr Oyebanji encouraged residents to remain steadfast in their faith, assuring them that the same divine guidance that steered the state through previous challenges will sustain ongoing developmental efforts. He commended the timing of the worship session, noting its significance as the first praise gathering under his newly inaugurated administration.
