The Enugu State Police Command has placed 30‑year‑old Ugbor Chika Paul in custody after linking him to multiple sexual assaults and extortion of women in the state. Police say the suspect used blackmail and threats to rob and abuse his victims.

The Enugu State Police Command confirmed that 30‑year‑old Ugbor Chika Paul was arrested after a coordinated investigation tied him to a string of sexual assaults and extortion targeting women in Enugu.

What crimes is the suspect accused of?

Police allege that Paul engaged in repeated rape, robbery and blackmail, exploiting victims over several months. The offences span from May to October 2026 and involve both physical abuse and the unlawful acquisition of cash and personal devices.

How were the victims targeted?

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the first known victim was a 20‑year‑old POS operator at Akwata Market. She was allegedly lured to a bush behind St. Peter’s Church, Coal Camp, at about 11:00 a.m. on 21 May 2026, where Paul reportedly robbed her of N600,000 and assaulted her.

The second victim, a 30‑year‑old POS worker from the same market, was said to have been drawn to the identical location at roughly 5:00 p.m. on 11 August 2026. Police claim he stole N120,000 from her during the encounter.

A third case involves a 21‑year‑old woman who, according to Ndukwe, was contacted on Facebook by the suspect posing as “Franklin Umeh.” She met him at Old Park, Enugu, at about 11:30 a.m. on 4 October 2026, after which she was taken to a bush near Udi Siding. The police say Paul abused her, recorded the act, and took N100,000 plus her mobile phone. He allegedly threatened to disseminate the video unless she paid an additional N200,000 and used her phone to message her contacts.

What did the police say about the investigation?

Ndukwe emphasized that the inquiry remains active and that Paul will be arraigned in court once the probe concludes. He urged any other victims to step forward, stating, “Anyone who has experienced cyber‑stalking or extortion should report the matter to the police so that appropriate action can be taken.”

The arrest underscores the command’s focus on combating gender‑based violence and financial crimes in the state. Further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
