Former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar Adamu warned that women are being paid to surrender their Permanent Voter Cards in an effort to suppress votes, while accepting the Alago community’s endorsement as the preferred candidate for Nasarawa State’s 2027 governorship election.

Former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar Adamu warned on Saturday in Doma, Nasarawa State that women are being offered money and their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) are being collected to prevent them from voting, as he accepted the Alago community’s endorsement as the preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship race.

He said that, if granted the mandate to lead the state, his administration would prioritise quality education, quality healthcare and robust security. Adamu thanked God for the progress of his political journey and expressed gratitude to the Alago Support Group for their backing, stating, “The people have shown they will vote for me and, God willing, I will win the election.”

What are his main campaign promises?

Adamu pledged to place the needs of ordinary Nigerians at the centre of his agenda. He vowed to improve school infrastructure, ensure hospitals deliver competent services, and create a security environment where citizens can sleep without fear. He framed his candidacy as a fight for “the common man” who has been neglected by the current government.

What did he say about alleged vote‑buying?

The ex‑IGP raised alarm over reports that political operatives are buying PVCs from women to stop them from casting ballots. “Those who do not have followers are collecting cards in the hands of women, buying them to prevent them from voting. Anyone who has sold a card should retrieve it and bring it back on election day,” he warned, urging all voters to retain their cards and vote freely.

Convener Danjuma Joseph, speaking for the Alago Support Group, said the movement was born from a resolve that the Alago people could not stay on the sidelines while Nasarawa’s future is shaped. He described Adamu as a man of proven integrity, an impeccable track record and uncommon patriotism, noting his deep historical and blood ties to the Alago community.

Joseph cited Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantees freedom of association, to argue that supporting Adamu does not breach any legal principle. He explained that the current political climate, described as a “Rainbow Coalition,” allows individuals to remain in their parties while backing any candidate they deem fit for the state’s development.

The group announced plans to canvass every Alago electoral ward in Nasarawa South and extend mobilisation efforts to the North and West Senatorial Districts, aiming to deliver a decisive victory for Adamu in the 2027 governorship election.
