The First Bank of Nigeria Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship will mark its 65th anniversary starting November 16 at the prestigious Ikoyi Golf Club in Lagos State, bringing together golfers from across the region for a week of competitive play.
Backed by a N35 million financial commitment, the seven-day tournament concludes on Sunday, November 22. The itinerary features several auxiliary events, including youth golf clinics, philanthropic matches, professional showcases, and the newly unveiled caddies' entertainment trophy designed to reward support staff.
Speaking at a media briefing to announce the competition, the Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank, Olusegun Alebiosu—who was represented by the institution's Group Executive for Commercial Banking South, Nnaemeka Ejeh—reiterated the financial institution's dedication to grassroots sports advancement through its designated First@Sports initiative.
“First Bank continues to lead in driving sports as a tool for community development and national cohesion, from the sponsorship of the Georgian Cup Polo tournament for over 100 years to the support for a deluge of other sporting activities,” Ejeh stated on behalf of the managing director.
He added that the organisation anticipates a high-level, seamlessly coordinated sporting event that promotes fair play, superior performance, and enduring alliances. Drawing parallels between financial operations and the sport, he noted that victory on the green requires careful planning, patience, and steadfast discipline.
