Four individuals have been apprehended on suspicion of spying for Iran after law enforcement initiated an inquiry into alleged surveillance aimed at members of the Jewish community in London.
The individuals in custody include one Iranian national and three dual British-Iranian citizens, detained by the Metropolitan Police around 1 a.m. today.
According to officials, the suspects, aged 22, 40, 52, and 55, were arrested at various locations in Harrow, Watford, and Barnet.
The arrests occurred as part of a wider Counter Terrorism Policing operation focusing on possible violations of the National Security Act.
This investigation is centered around suspected monitoring of specific locations and individuals associated with the Jewish community in the London region.
The Metropolitan Police reported that a man, aged 40, and another, aged 55, were apprehended at sites in Barnet, with searches continuing at those addresses.
Additionally, a 52-year-old was detained in Watford, where police are conducting searches at the property and another related site in Wembley.
A 22-year-old was also taken into custody in Harrow, as per statements from the Met Police.
Moreover, six other men, aged 29, 39, 42, 49, and two aged 20, were arrested at the same Harrow location on charges of aiding an offender.
All ten individuals remain in custody for further investigation.
Commander Helen Flanagan, who heads Counter Terrorism Policing in London, remarked that these arrests are part of an extensive investigation and reflect the police’s commitment to disrupting harmful activities.
She emphasized the importance of public vigilance, particularly within the Jewish community, urging anyone with concerning information to reach out to the authorities.
