The Department of State Services arrested Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina, son of ex‑Pension Reform Task Team chairman Abdulrasheed Maina, after he allegedly returned to Nigeria in secret. He has been transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to serve a 14‑year sentence.

The [Department of State Services](https://dss.gov.ng) detained Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina, the fugitive son of former Pension Reform Task Team chairman Abdulrasheed Maina, in the Karsana area of Abuja on 16 October 2026 and immediately handed him over to the [Economic and Financial Crimes Commission](https://efcc.gov.ng) for custody.

A security source told Zagazola Makama that the arrest was based on reliable intelligence indicating that Maina had secretly re‑entered the country after years abroad.

Maina had been evading authorities since 2020 when the EFCC charged him with three counts related to money‑laundering and conspiracy. He was accused of breaching bail conditions and fleeing Nigeria while his trial was still pending.

Despite his absence, the court proceeded with the case, and Justice Okon Abang sentenced him to 14 years in prison in 2021. The judgment ordered that Maina be apprehended anywhere in Nigeria and placed in a correctional facility to serve the term, and it instructed the Federal Government to pursue extradition if he were located outside the country.

"The handover of Faisal to the EFCC is expected to facilitate the enforcement of the court’s judgment and ensure that he serves his sentence in accordance with the law," another security source said.

The transfer to the EFCC is intended to enable the agency to implement the court’s order and secure Maina’s imprisonment as mandated by the 2021 ruling.
