The [G-100 opposition coalition](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_coalition) announced on Wednesday in Abuja that it has set up legal and media committees to accelerate the selection of a single candidate who will challenge President [Bola Tinubu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bola_Tinubu) in the 2027 presidential election.
**What committees were formed?**
The coalition inaugurated a Legal Committee composed of national legal advisers tasked with reviewing the constitution, electoral statutes and Supreme Court judgments to shield the alliance from procedural challenges. At the same time, a Media and Publicity Committee, made up of party publicity secretaries and campaign spokespeople, will coordinate joint messaging and public outreach.
**Which parties are involved?**
The alliance brings together the Social Democratic Party ([SDP](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Democratic_Party_(Nigeria))), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM). National Chairman of the SDP, Prof. Sadiq Gombe, said the grouping reflects a broad-based effort to present a credible alternative to the current administration.
**Who are the potential presidential hopefuls?**
Among the names being floated are former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar, former Governor Peter Obi, former Cross River Governor Donald Duke and former Minister Adewale Adebayo. Gombe confirmed that direct talks with these aspirants are already underway and that “major breakthroughs are expected before the end of the year,” emphasizing the urgency of reaching consensus.
**Why is the coalition seeking a unified ticket?**
Gombe highlighted the nation’s worsening economic hardship and escalating security challenges, arguing that a fragmented opposition would only dilute the vote. He stressed that the coalition’s priority is the national interest, not individual political ambition, and that a single, well‑vetted candidate would give Nigerians a realistic chance of change in 2027.
The legal team will continue to monitor any constitutional or judicial developments that could affect the alliance, while the media wing will craft a coordinated narrative to counter the incumbent government’s messaging. The coalition aims to finalize its consensus candidate before the calendar turns to 2024, positioning itself for a robust campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
