Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Saturday welcomed Hon. Mohammed Adamu Damji, a former Commissioner for Finance, into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The high-profile defection sees Damji leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pitch his tent with the state's governing party.
Damji previously served as the Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue and as Managing Director of the Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company. His formal reception took place at the Government House in Gombe, where he arrived in the company of former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sen. Usman Bayero Nafada.
How did Governor Yahaya receive the new entrant?
As the leader of the party in the state, Governor Yahaya assured the former commissioner that the platform would provide him with an inclusive space to leverage his vast experience and political networks. The governor emphasized that integrating experienced political figures contributes significantly to party consolidation and the overall advancement of Gombe State.
Expressing optimism about the party's future, Yahaya maintained that Damji's arrival adds substantial value to the APC's structural integrity. He reaffirmed his dedication to inclusive governance, progressive ideals, and the continuous execution of developmental projects across the region.
What are Damji's plans ahead of the 2027 elections?
Speaking after his defection, Damji promised to deploy his grassroots machinery and political alliances to bolster the APC's electoral fortunes. He specifically committed to working toward the victory of the party's candidates during the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Damji also threw his weight behind Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, the party's governorship hopeful, alongside other candidates contesting across various political levels. He lauded Governor Yahaya's administration, characterizing the ongoing infrastructural and socio-economic achievements in Gombe State as evidence of visionary leadership.
