Governor [Uba Sani](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uba_Sani) broke ground for the NASENI Skill Development Centre in Rigachukun, Kaduna State on Monday, stressing that targeted skills training is essential for economic renewal and broader social inclusion in Nigeria. He said the government must provide platforms that allow young Nigerians to harness their energy, ambition and ingenuity.
**What does the new centre aim to achieve?**
The centre is intended to expand access to practical, industry‑relevant training, award recognised qualifications and create fair pathways to productive employment. It complements the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development, an institution that recently celebrated 4,050 graduates across its Rigachikun, Soba and Samaru Kataf campuses.
**Which trades are covered?**
Graduates received instruction in 14 distinct trades, including Electrical Installation, Aluminium Fabrication, Solar Installation, Mechatronics, Computer Hardware Repair and Maintenance, Catering and Hospitality, and Fashion Design. The institute has also secured accreditation from the [National Board for Technical Education](https://nbte.gov.ng), while its instructors were trained as Quality Assurance Assessors and Internal Quality Assurance Managers.
**Why is accreditation important?**
According to the governor, these quality‑assurance measures enhance the credibility of assessments and certifications, giving employers greater confidence in the competence of the institute’s graduates.
**What are the expectations for the new centre?**
Uba Sani highlighted that the NASENI Skill Development Centre will act as a bridge between the aspirations of Kaduna’s people and the demands of a changing economy. He urged that the facility should deliver practical competence, credible certification and clear routes into employment or entrepreneurship. Inclusion is a priority; women, persons with disabilities and youths from underserved communities must be given meaningful opportunities to participate.
**How is the state supporting the project?**
Kaduna State has provided the land for the centre and remains committed to facilitating construction. The governor praised the contractors for mobilising equipment and urged all parties – NASENI, the project team and contractors – to adhere to agreed standards and timelines, ensuring that the building is ready for effective operation.
In his concluding remarks, the governor called for a shared responsibility to build an institution that earns public confidence through high‑quality training and the achievements of its graduates, ultimately translating knowledge into greater dignity for families across the state.
