The African Youth Development Alliance has issued a statement addressing allegations against Police SIU Officers, who allegedly extorted N5 million from a resident based in Abuja.

In their statement, the group highlighted that the report is fraught with inaccuracies, unverified claims, and misleading narratives aimed at damaging the reputation of the officers from the Nigeria Police Force.

“Based on our independent investigations, we can confirm that Abiodun Adekunle Fasasi has never extorted N5 million from an Abuja businessman or any other individual as bail payment,” the statement read.

The group further emphasized that the allegations lack credible evidence. They pointed out that the so-called receipts mentioned, which supposedly detail the payments made, do not identify Abiodun Adekunle Fasasi nor show any connection to the alleged “proxies” said to be acting on his behalf.

Fasasi, being a senior officer, is acutely aware of the serious professional and legal implications of extortion, the group stated, questioning the logic behind suggesting he would engage in such misconduct.

Contrary to the allegations, which included claims that Fasasi threatened detainees with fabricated charges — such as cybercrime, drug trafficking, tax evasion, money laundering, privacy violations, or homosexuality — the group asserted these are nothing but lies constructed by the complainant and should be disregarded by the public.

The group has also challenged the complainant to provide concrete proof of the alleged N10 million bail demand and the supposed discussions that led to a reduction of the amount to N5 million.

“Until such evidence is presented, these claims cannot be deemed anything other than speculative and unverified,” stated Busola Tejumola, spokesperson for the African Youth Development Alliance, in the release.

Moreover, the assertion that attempts to obtain internal resolution were unsuccessful is totally unfounded and does not align with the operational realities within the unit.
