Gunmen have reportedly opened fire on two friends riding a motorcycle, resulting in injuries to Abdulkarim Ibrahim along the Katari–Gurara Dam road in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to local resident Rabiu Bello, the incident took place on Saturday at around 6:40 PM.
Abdulkarim and his companion, Garba Bala, were making their way from Katari towards Gidan Kaura village near Hayin-Dam when attackers emerged from the bush and opened fire, striking Abdulkarim in the leg.
Despite sustaining a bullet wound, Abdulkarim managed to reach Hayin-Dam village, where he was promptly taken to a local hospital for medical attention.
A community leader, who wished to remain unnamed, corroborated the details of the incident during a phone conversation with our reporter. He mentioned that the assailants fired upon the victims after they failed to halt their motorcycle. Upon learning of the attack, the leader swiftly informed security personnel stationed at the Sabon-Kurutu junction.
“I’m uncertain whether the security personnel acted immediately, as I received the call just as I was preparing to break my fast. I was informed that bandits had obstructed the Katari–Hayin-Dam road and shot a man riding with a friend,” he stated.
A security official, who requested anonymity, also confirmed the occurrence and indicated that the criminals had escaped into the forest before law enforcement arrived at the location.
“Security forces are actively searching the area to locate the bandits’ hideout,” the official noted.
As of this report, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, had not yet verified the incident.
