Inibehe Effiong, a human rights lawyer, recently shared his experiences related to two paternity fraud cases, revealing the intense emotional turmoil they caused his clients while noting the complete lack of remorse exhibited by one of the women involved.
He recounted how both men became overwhelmed with emotion and cried while giving their testimonies in court, a moment that left a strong impression on him.
During the discussion, the lawyer also expressed serious concerns about the increasing frequency of paternity fraud cases, which fortunately, can be addressed through the use of DNA testing.
In a social media post on Wednesday, January 21, 2025, he mentioned, “In the last week, I have handled two cases of paternity fraud and infidelity.”
He added that one of these cases was heard publicly in court the previous day.
“Witnessing our client dissolve in tears while testifying about the paternity fraud perpetrated by his wife had a significant impact on me,” he stated.
He revealed that the woman in question showed no remorse, instead blaming the client for the situation.
The victim in the first case he worked on this week also broke down emotional days before. “Thankful for the availability of DNA testing,” he commented.
Effiong shared that navigating these issues could be simpler. Having represented both men and women in matrimonial disputes, he feels he can provide a unique perspective on this matter.
He concluded by remarking that paternity fraud appears to be more widespread than commonly perceived.
