The International Public Relations Association has elevated distinguished Nigerian communications specialist Yushau A. Shuaib to the rank of Fellow, honoring his decades of adherence to global industry standards.

Yushau A. Shuaib, a renowned Nigerian public relations specialist and media entrepreneur, has been admitted as a Fellow of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), earning the distinguished FIPRA post-nominal designation.

Esther Cobbah, the President of IPRA, endorsed the fellowship certification, acknowledging Shuaib's active involvement of over six years within the prominent international association, which was originally established in May 1955. Philip Sheppard, the Secretary-General of IPRA, noted that the fellowship status is reserved for long-standing members who consistently exhibit dedication to worldwide public relations excellence and ethical industry practices.

What are the background and milestones of the global association?

Operating across roughly 95 nations, the premier body has maintained official consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and UNESCO since 1984 and 1983 respectively.

Shuaib serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), the parent organization of outlets like PRNigeria, Economic Confidential, and Spokespersons Digest. Under his leadership, the firm has garnered multiple accolades from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), African Public Relations Association (APRA), SABRE Awards Africa, and the Golden World Awards (GWA) managed by IPRA.

This fellowship announcement arrives shortly after IMPR secured monumental success at the international GWA ceremony held in Athens, Greece, where the agency clinched several trophies, including the highly coveted Grand Prix, for a project titled “AI in Crisis Communication: From Study to Strategy.”

Spearheaded by Shuaib, the award-winning initiative stemmed from a comprehensive 107-page research paper examining artificial intelligence integration in Nigerian crisis management. The project received backing from key domestic bodies such as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), and the Nigeria Customs Service, among other partners.

This triumph in the Greek capital—where IPRA established its foundational Code of Athens in 1965—marked a decade of IMPR's consistent engagement with the global awards. Previously, in 2016 at Doha, Qatar, Shuaib was honored with a GWA for Crisis Management, while PRovoke Media recognized IMPR as the top creative public relations agency globally in its 2020 index.

Shuaib completed his undergraduate studies in Mass Communication at Bayero University, Kano, in 1992, securing the NIPR President’s Prize as the top-performing public relations student. He later earned a Master’s degree in Public Relations from the University of Westminster, London, in 2010.

Before venturing into private enterprise, Shuaib had a distinguished tenure in public sector communications. He worked as a Public Relations Officer at the Delta State Government House in Asaba and held communication positions within the federal ministries responsible for Information, Finance, and Health.

Subsequently, he directed public relations units at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) prior to his retirement from civil service.

Beyond corporate leadership, Shuaib coordinates the National Spokespersons Awards (NS-Awards) and the PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship (PYCF), both designed to honor strategic communication excellence and mentor upcoming media practitioners. He has also written numerous publications addressing media relations, financial communication, and crisis management.
