A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party faithful in Soba Local Government Area, Kaduna State, has publicly declared backing for Governor Uba Sani's 2027 gubernatorial ambitions. The opposition members attributed their stance to the tangible infrastructural strides and road construction executed by the current administration within their localities.
Despite their political affiliation, these constituents noted that leadership delivery supersedes party loyalty, pointing to newly commissioned pathways that have eased socio-economic hurdles in rural settlements.
Why are opposition members backing the governor?
Adamu Danburam, a local coordinator for the opposition party, explained that his resolve to cast a ballot for the ruling All Progressives Congress chief executive stems from performance rather than party insignia. He stated that the administration fulfilled infrastructure needs that previous governments failed to address.
"I am a staunch PDP member, but for us, politics is about individuals. Although we belong to the PDP, I will vote for Uba Sani because he has done for me what the PDP could not do," Danburam remarked, while further requesting the state government to site a primary healthcare facility, electricity, and clean water sources in Birnin Da'a village.
Echoing similar sentiments, another long-standing opposition loyalist, Dogara Mohammed, maintained that his decades of allegiance to his party would not stop him from rewarding performance with votes.
"Everybody knows that I have never changed political parties, but this time, I will vote for the APC because of the road he constructed through our town," Mohammed stated, emphasizing the generational economic value of the infrastructure.
How has the road project impacted local farmers?
Providing agricultural context, Hassan Adamu Abdullahi noted that prior to the intervention, conveying farm harvests to trading centers was a grueling task, particularly throughout the wet seasons.
The newly completed route connecting Gurundafi, Soba, and Turawa has drastically reduced travel duration to minutes, revolutionizing rural commerce and intra-community integration.
"Before the road was constructed, we faced serious difficulties because of the poor road network. But now, Governor Uba Sani has constructed a road linking Gurundafi, Soba and Turawa. We can reach our destinations easily within a few minutes," Abdullahi said.
This infrastructure initiative forms part of broader state-wide civil engineering interventions by the Kaduna State Government, which also feature the 15-kilometer road linking Kasuwar Magani to Wusar in Kajuru Local Government Area, alongside a 23-kilometer stretch connecting Madaci, Madakiya, and Kafanchan in Jema'a Local Government Area.
