On Saturday in Abuja, [Abba Kabir Yusuf](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abba_Kabir_Yusuf) pledged the full backing of Northern Nigeria to President [Bola Ahmed Tinubu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bola_Ahmed_Tinubu)’s bid for a second term in the 2027 general elections, announcing that the newly launched Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) campaign office will serve as the coordination hub for the effort.
The inauguration took place at the A4A headquarters, where the governor highlighted that the movement will mobilise supporters across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory. Former Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar was named the national coordinator of the initiative.
“Kano, as the leading state with the highest number of votes in Northern Nigeria, will, in sha Allah, lead all Nigerian states to victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with massive turnout in favour of the APC,” Yusuf declared, emphasizing Kano’s voting strength.
Speaking shortly after, Vice President [Kashim Shettima](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashim_Shettima) affirmed the North’s commitment to Tinubu while warning that political support must translate into accountability, good governance and tangible improvements for citizens. He cited security, education, poverty reduction and job creation as priority areas that require sustained attention.
Arewa for Asiwaju is designed to act as a unifying platform that coordinates campaign activities, rallies and voter outreach in the northern region ahead of the 2027 polls. The movement seeks to harness the region’s demographic weight to bolster the incumbent’s re‑election prospects.
The event marks a broader wave of political mobilisation as parties and interest groups across Nigeria begin organising their campaigns for the upcoming general elections, signalling an intensifying contest for power in the country’s next electoral cycle.
