The [Kano State Police Command](https://police.kano.gov.ng) has called Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal for questioning after a video showed him allegedly brandishing a firearm at what appeared to be a political rally.
Police said the clip emerged during a routine cyber‑monitoring sweep and seems to depict the lawmaker holding a pump‑action rifle.
In a statement released on Monday, spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa warned that, if proven, the act could breach the [Firearms Act](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearms_Act_(Nigeria)).
The command added that such behaviour might also stir fear, intimidate the public and disturb peace and security.
The Commissioner of Police, [Ibrahim Adamu Bakori](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibrahim_Adamu_Bakori), ordered that Warkal be summoned to the headquarters in Bompai, Kano for interrogation.
According to the notice, the lawmaker was taken to the State Intelligence Department (SID) where the investigation continues.
Police have not indicated whether the weapon seen in the footage was seized nor have they reported any statement from Warkal regarding its possession.
The command stressed that it will not tolerate lawlessness, thuggery or the exhibition of weapons that could jeopardise public order, irrespective of the individual’s rank.
Authorities also appealed to politicians, supporters and other stakeholders to conduct their campaigns peacefully and adhere to the Electoral Act, the Firearms Act and other applicable statutes.
They urged political actors to ensure their actions foster peace, tolerance and respect for the rule of law.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property and to keeping Kano tranquil throughout the election period.
The notice arrives as political campaigning intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections, prompting security agencies to heighten surveillance of activities that could threaten public order.
