Mudashir Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has asserted that Dr. Obafemi Hamzat possesses the requisite qualifications to succeed Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the next governor of the state. Obasa delivered this endorsement while interacting with members of the press during the formal unveiling of Hamzat's campaign manifesto on Friday.
The high-profile political gathering took place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, a historic landmark previously known as the National Arts Theatre, situated in the Iganmu area of Lagos State.
Dr. Obafemi Hamzat currently serves as the deputy governor of the economic hub. Historical records show that Hamzat initially sought the number one political seat in the state back in 2019 before eventually agreeing to run on a joint ticket as the running mate to the incumbent governor.
Speaking passionately at Friday's unveiling, Obasa voiced strong optimism regarding Hamzat's capacity to fulfill his electoral pledges if elected into office.
Why does Obasa believe Hamzat is qualified?
The legislative leader pointed out that Hamzatâs robust academic credentials, coupled with his extensive administrative exposure across both the private and public sectors, provide a solid foundation for effective governance.
"He has the competence, character, and most importantly, the determination to rewrite the Lagos State socio-economic narrative," Obasa stated while addressing the audience of supporters, party loyalists, and journalists.
The endorsement adds significant political momentum to Hamzat's aspirations within the ruling All Progressives Congress as political stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of future electoral cycles in Nigeria's commercial capital.
