Mobile Screens and Sound Limited (MSS) [https://www.mobilescreensandsound.com] and KolaDaisi University [https://www.koladaisiuniversity.edu.ng] jointly celebrated the graduation of more than 60 students from the inaugural MSS Event Tech Academy on 29 September at Darlington Hall, Lagos. The ceremony marked the culmination of a 10‑week intensive programme designed to equip participants with practical skills for Nigeria’s expanding events and entertainment sector.
What did the training cover?
The academy offered six specialised tracks – LED Screen Engineering, Sound Engineering, Camera Craft and Video Production, Light Design and Control, Event Management and Production, and Rigging and Trussing – each delivering hands‑on instruction aligned with current industry standards in event technology [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event_technology]. Over the course of the programme, trainees engaged in classroom learning, laboratory work and real‑world project assignments.
How did the graduates demonstrate their abilities?
During the graduation event, the students took charge of the entire technical and production set‑up, handling LED screens, sound systems, lighting rigs, camera operations and overall event management. This live‑production exercise allowed them to apply their newly acquired knowledge in a real‑world setting, confirming their readiness for professional roles.
Tunbosun Kola‑Daisi, Managing Director of MSS, addressed the graduates, emphasizing that the ceremony was not an endpoint but a launchpad for continuous growth. “Graduation should not be seen as the end of learning, but as the beginning of a lifelong journey of growth. The event technology industry continues to evolve, and as technology advances, so must our knowledge, creativity and capacity to adapt,” he said.
What opportunities await the top performers?
The academy identified five outstanding students who will be offered employment contracts with MSS, providing a direct entry route into the event‑technology field. Prof. Olajumoke Morenikeji, Vice‑Chancellor of KolaDaisi University, highlighted the significance of bridging academic learning with industry practice, noting, “Education must prepare our students not just to seek employment, but also to create value, solve problems, and create opportunities for themselves.”
MSS is approaching its 20th anniversary in October, reflecting two decades of involvement in Nigeria’s event‑technology landscape. Throughout this period, the company has built expertise across technical and creative disciplines, contributing to the professionalisation of the sector and supporting major live experiences nationwide.
The academy serves as a structured platform for MSS to transfer its industry knowledge, fostering a talent pipeline that will sustain future growth. At the ceremony, Tunbosun Kola‑Daisi, Prof. Olajumoke Morenikeji, and Olasunmbo Obaseki, President and Director of Advancement & Alumni Relations at KolaDaisi University, jointly presented certificates to the graduates, formally recognising their achievement.
For MSS, the graduation not only celebrates the success of its first academy but also signals a long‑term commitment to nurturing the next generation of event‑technology professionals who will shape Nigeria’s entertainment and events ecosystem.
