The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) confirmed on 24 October that it will continue to nurture harmonious relations with the Federal Government of Nigeria and the administrations of the six south‑west states, aiming to safeguard the welfare and interests of Muslims in the region.

Who spoke and where?

Executive Secretary Professor Wole Abass made the statement during a visit to the Assembly of Muslim Organisations in Iwoland – also known as Isokan Musulumi – which is chaired by Sheikh Abdurosheed Idris‑Fazazi.

What is MUSWEN’s role?

Abass explained that MUSWEN functions as an umbrella body for Islamic groups across the south‑west, tasked with fostering unity, mediating intra‑Ummah disputes, and advocating for the protection of Muslims’ rights and entitlements.

How will the organisation engage with authorities?

He added that MUSWEN remains dedicated to dialogue with all levels of government to ensure that Muslims enjoy full citizenship rights, while promoting peaceful coexistence and constructive interaction with public institutions.

What events are upcoming?

The visit formed part of the preparation for MUSWEN’s 11th Annual General Assembly, slated to take place at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State. The Executive Secretary also announced that the 12th edition of the assembly will be hosted by Ogun State next year.

Response from Iwoland’s assembly chair:

Sheikh Abdurosheed Idris‑Fazazi praised MUSWEN for its leadership and its role in uniting south‑west Muslims. He urged the body to keep strengthening bonds among Muslim groups, stressing that unity is essential for collective progress.

Call for education and technology:

Idris‑Fazazi further encouraged Muslims to acquire skills in technology and engineering, arguing that education and technological advancement are vital for competing in the 21st‑century economy and contributing meaningfully to society.

Comments from the planning committee:

Alhaji Abdurahman Abdulganiy, chair of the planning committee for the 11th assembly, described the solidarity displayed by Iwo’s Muslims as a source of pride for Islam and a reflection of MUSWEN’s vision of harmony.
