The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State has told the [Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)](https://www.inecnigeria.org/) that it expects the body to restore its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and his deputy to the 2027 election roster if the exclusion is deemed an error.
Party chairman Hussaini Isah Mai Riga explained that the issue was forwarded to the NDC’s national secretariat, which in turn raised the matter with INEC. He said the commission has pledged to look into why the names were missing from the final list of Kano governorship aspirants.
"We have written to our National Secretariat and they have escalated it also to INEC. INEC said it will investigate that if it’s a mistake, of course, it will restore our candidates’ status. So we are now waiting for their response," Mai Riga said.
The omission of Gwarzo and his running mate from the official candidate sheet has sparked concerns about the party’s ability to contest the 2027 governorship race in Kano. The NDC now awaits INEC’s findings before deciding on any further legal or political action.
Should INEC confirm the exclusion was a clerical oversight, the commission is expected to amend the list and formally recognize the NDC ticket, allowing the party to participate fully in the upcoming election.
