The attackers were forced to retreat, leaving behind weapons and equipment while the base remained under military control.

The offensive began just after midnight when more than 100 motorcycles, each ridden by armed fighters, surged towards the base. The insurgents were equipped with General‑Purpose Machine Guns and Rocket‑Propelled Grenades, aiming to overrun the installation. Nigerian soldiers responded with superior firepower, holding their positions and compelling the militants to withdraw into the surrounding terrain.

"The enemy launched a massive, well‑armed raid but our troops maintained discipline and repelled the attack," said security analyst and counter‑insurgency specialist Zagazola Makama in a post on his X account. He added that several attackers were neutralised on the spot, while others fled with gunshot injuries.

Following the clash, a follow‑up pursuit operation retrieved 17 abandoned motorcycles, a PKT machine gun, an AK‑47 rifle, assorted ammunition and Baofeng communication radios that had been used by the militants. The recovered assets are now being catalogued for forensic analysis.

The area surrounding the base continues to be secured by aggressive patrols and dominance operations aimed at tracking any remaining members of the Lakurawa group.
