Nollywood actress and podcast co-host Lolade Okusanya has stated that a significant number of performers in the Nigerian movie industry prioritize their artistic craft over the celebrity status that typically follows commercial success. The media personality shared these insights during a discussion about celebrity privacy and public boundaries.
Elaborating on her viewpoint, Okusanya referenced veteran screen icons such as Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde as prime examples of prominent figures who intentionally stepped back from public glare after achieving massive success in their careers.
"There are people like Genevieve; after all the fame, they went back into their shells. They still have the fame, but they want to go back into their shells. Omotola Jalade Ekeinde too, she went back into her shell," Okusanya remarked.
Why is celebrity privacy difficult to maintain?
The film star explained that even when well-known personalities actively seek a quiet and secluded existence, the relentless nature of public attention often makes personal boundaries hard to sustain. According to her, eager fans frequently disrupt these attempts at normalcy whenever they spot public figures in everyday settings.
"Because no matter how much she still craves that private life, we will disrupt it," she noted.
Reiterating her initial point, Okusanya emphasized that the foundational drive for many practitioners in the creative sector is the sheer love for performance rather than an obsession with red carpets and public adoration.
"Some actors do not love fame; they just love acting. But some jobs come with fame," she concluded.
This discourse sheds light on the perpetual challenge Nollywood practitioners face in balancing high professional visibility with the fundamental human need for a quiet, private life away from public scrutiny.
