A female officer serving with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died following an incident where she was struck by one of the corps' operational vehicles during a training simulation in Abuja.

The unfortunate event happened amidst what officials categorized as a standard drill.

Footage that has surfaced on social media depicts the moment when the officer was hit and subsequently run over by a patrol vehicle making a turn in the course of the coordinated exercise.

The video reveals the vehicle maneuvering before colliding with the officer, who fell underneath it.

The driver managed to stop the vehicle eventually, while fellow officers and bystanders hurried to the scene to assist.

Witnesses reported seeing personnel attempting to lift the vehicle in a bid to free her before emergency services could arrive and transport her for medical attention.

NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the corps is mourning the loss of one of its members.

“It is accurate that we lost a personnel during the training exercise. Our senior officials are headed to the deceased’s home to express our condolences,” Babawale stated.

He also noted that internal investigations have been initiated regarding the incident, and more information will be shared as it becomes available.

“A comprehensive statement will be released to clarify the details surrounding this tragedy and to outline the agency's response strategies,” he added.

As of the time of this report, the identity of the fallen officer has yet to be publicly revealed.
