Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is scheduled to chair a national summit bringing together leaders of opposition political parties in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, today.

The gathering, hosted by Governor Seyi Makinde, will take place at the Government House Banquet Hall.

The summit's central theme is 'That We May Work Together for a United Opposition to Sustain Our Democracy,' and it aims to unite leaders from various opposition parties.

Organisers have described the event as a landmark initiative designed to establish a collective stance against Nigeria’s significant socio-economic and security issues, while simultaneously reinforcing democratic structures.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo chairs a summit with other political leaders present.

Notable figures expected to address the summit include the former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Usman Bugaje.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, have already arrived in Ibadan for the summit.

Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has also reached the event's location.

Atiku Abubakar shared a video on his Facebook page documenting his arrival, which featured a large turnout of supporters welcoming him to Oyo State.

Separately, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning to disrupt the national summit of opposition political parties.

In a statement released on Saturday morning, Abdullahi claimed that the APC has been actively working towards sabotaging the event.

"We have uncovered plans by the ruling APC to disrupt the summit being held by the opposition parties in Ibadan, Oyo State, today, 25th of April," Abdullahi stated on X.

He added, "After denying us the use of venues in Abuja, they now will not leave us alone to hold our meetings.

"They say they are not scared, but they are behaving like people who are terrified.

"But we will not be deterred, because we are on the side of the Nigerian people."
