During the 2026 Public Service Week celebrations in Akure, the Head of Service of [Ondo State](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ondo_State), **[Segun Odusanya](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_service_of_Nigeria)**, appealed to **[Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa](https://www.ondostate.gov.ng/governor)** for the provision of **[Compressed Natural Gas](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compressed_natural_gas)** (CNG) buses and the creation of low‑cost housing estates for public servants, stating that such interventions would enhance punctuality and overall productivity.
Key points presented by Odusanya included:
- Approximately 6,000 personnel have been recruited across various sectors from 2024 to date to strengthen service delivery.
- The state government approved an additional N500 million seed fund for housing and vehicle loan schemes.
- All officers due for promotion in the 2026 cycle have received their promotion letters, with preparations for the 2027 cycle already under way.
- Salary payments, leave bonuses, and gradual settlement of gratuity arrears for state and local government pensioners continue to be honoured.
"Transportation has become a major concern for many public servants. Rising commuting costs and difficulties in securing affordable and reliable transport can affect punctuality, attendance and overall productivity," Odusanya told reporters.
He further explained that high accommodation costs are pressuring workers' incomes and wellbeing, and urged the government to explore the development of low‑cost housing estates supported by sustainable financing and transparent allocation, complementing the existing housing loan scheme.
The Head of Service also highlighted recent government actions such as the upward revision of loan ceilings and Duty Tour Allowance for official assignments within and outside the state, including foreign trips. He noted that the administration has sustained prompt salary payments, continued the gradual settlement of inherited gratuity arrears for pensioners, and harmonised pensions for retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries.
Activities planned for the Public Service Week include a health walk, a novelty football match, a public lecture titled “Harnessing Public Service for Good Governance,” and a panel discussion aimed at fostering dialogue on service improvement.
Odusanya concluded that while both the transport and housing proposals require careful planning and resources, they deserve serious consideration as part of a comprehensive public service reform agenda.
