Ondo State plane crash leaves no survivors, says Governor Aiyedatiwa

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced that no survivors have been found after a Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, Ilaje LGA on October 5. Rescue teams recovered only wreckage from the plane that was on a routine flight from Benin to Lagos.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of [Ondo State](https://www.ondostate.gov.ng) said no survivors have been located yet after a [Nigerian Air Force](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Air_Force) aircraft went down in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area on Monday morning, 5 October.

He made the statement hours after the crash, noting that locals, emergency teams and security forces had combed the site but had not found anyone alive.

“No survivors yet from the information I’ve gotten from the people in there. I’ve not been able to speak to the Naval captain who is leading the base, but my security advisor got in contact with the [Amotekun](https://amotekun.org) leader in the local government and the local government chairman. From all indications, there are no survivors yet that we can record.”

Twenty‑five passengers and seven crew members were aboard the aircraft, which was on a routine mission from Benin City in Edo State to Lagos when it crashed at Igbokoda shortly after 9:00 am (0800 GMT).

The governor described how the crash unfolded, saying people in the vicinity heard a tremor and saw the plane nose‑dive into a swamp. He said navy personnel initially held back to avoid a possible explosion, but when no fire was seen they moved in to search for survivors. Local emergency responders, residents and the Amotekun unit from Ilaje also entered the area, but according to the information received, no lives were saved. They recovered wreckage, fragments of wings, identification cards and uniforms, confirming the aircraft was military.

He added that the [Nigerian Air Force](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Air_Force) is now examining the cause of the fatal accident.
