The operation’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, told reporters that Sector 2 troops first encountered the group in the Waria Forest, where a firefight resulted in one militant killed and the recovery of two AK‑47s, two motorcycles and assorted items.

A second clash unfolded in Sarma village, where another suspect was neutralised while the remaining fighters fled, abandoning further equipment.

Subsequent sweeps of the area yielded six more motorcycles, two additional AK‑47 rifles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition, a communication device and other material.

The two fatalities bring the total number of Lakurawa operatives eliminated by the force to two, and the seized weapons are slated to bolster ongoing efforts to disrupt armed groups in the region.

Danja said the successes underscore the troops’ continued commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across the joint operations area, and thanked the public for its cooperation.

The army urged residents of Sokoto State to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security outpost.
