Police from the Oyo State command stopped a commercial bus on Ife Road, arresting a traveler from Anambra who carried a pistol and ammunition. The suspect claimed he was heading to Oyo to avenge his brother’s killing and admitted belonging to the Vikings cult.

The [Oyo State Police Command](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyo_State) detained a man who had journeyed from Anambra State to Oyo with the aim of avenging his brother’s death, confiscating a pistol and a cartridge during a routine Safer Highway Patrol stop on Ife Road.

Operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol, conducting a stop‑and‑search operation, intercepted the suspect while he was traveling in a commercial bus. The police public relations officer, DSP Ayanlade Olushola Olayinka, said the suspect’s answers during questioning indicated a clear intent to carry out a revenge killing.

**What did the suspect reveal?**

He told investigators that he was employed in Benue State when he learned his brother had been killed at a school in Oka. “I was working in Benue State. My brother was in school in Oka. I had information that he just died in the school. That somebody killed him in the school,” he said. He added that his mother also passed away a few weeks after his brother’s death.

The suspect claimed he later received information that the alleged perpetrator was residing in Oyo State, prompting him to travel there. He confirmed he was on his way to Oyo when police stopped him.

When asked about the source of the firearm, he stated he bought it from a friend for ₦20,000, describing the seller as possibly a hunter. He also admitted membership in the [Vikings confraternity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikings_(student_confraternity)), though he could not confirm whether his deceased brother was also a member.

DSP Olayinka said the suspect is currently under investigation to determine any wider connections and to fully establish the circumstances of the alleged revenge plot. He praised the officers involved for the successful interception and noted that inquiries remain ongoing.
