Prominent Nigerian cleric Pastor Sarah Omakwu recently sparked conversations online after releasing a video addressing marital fidelity, forgiveness, and the expectation of commitment within unions. In the widely shared social media footage, the religious leader tackled the differing ways husbands and females handle infidelity, calling out what she described as an unfair double standard often practiced by men.
Elaborating on her stance regarding marital vows, Omakwu noted that husbands frequently find it extremely difficult to pardon their spouses for being unfaithful. Conversely, she observed that women tend to display a higher capacity for forgiveness when faced with similar betrayals from their partners.
What did she say about double standards in marriage?
Directing her comments toward husbands who maintain romantic relationships outside their homes while expecting strict loyalty from their wives, the cleric condemned the practice plainly. “You are double standard because what is good for the goose is good for the gander. If a woman cannot follow a man, you can’t follow a woman,” she stated in the video.
Furthermore, Omakwu emphasised that entering into holy matrimony demands an unwavering dedication to a single partner, irrespective of the storms or difficulties that might test the relationship over time.
“When you decide to choose one person to marry, it means I have looked at all the men in the world and all the women and I decided you are the one. So come rain, come shine, we are together,” she added, reinforcing the sanctity of lifelong commitment.
