Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has expressed surprise and disquiet concerning the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) determination to take the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hosting rights from Senegal and give them to Morocco.
"It’s surprising, I don’t understand the reasons, but it is a decision made behind closed doors," Guardiola stated while addressing the media in a pre- match press briefing ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Arsenal.
He went on to comment, "Decisions are now being taken behind the scenes without the involvement of those affected by these choices."
Guardiola highlighted that this lack of transparency is not limited to football alone.
"This situation isn't new; it's something that has been occurring in football for some time, as well as in the entire world," he remarked to the Associated Press. "Observe the current global situation. There is extraordinary turmoil, yet nothing effective is being done. Everything happens behind the curtains. The world stands on the brink of collapse, yet we persist in discussing hidden maneuvers."
Manchester City is looking to overcome the disappointment from their recent Champions League exit as they prepare to take on Arsenal at Wembley this weekend. They were knocked out following a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium, resulting in a 5-1 aggregate defeat.
