Law enforcement agents in Plateau State have taken a 40-year-old resident into custody following the fatal shooting of his wife during an argument at their home. Authorities recovered weapons at the scene and confirmed that the suspect will face formal charges upon the conclusion of investigations.

Law enforcement operatives in Plateau State have arrested a 40-year-old man, Davou Dachung, in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife, Jessica Davou, following an intense domestic disagreement inside their residence located in Jos South Local Government Area.

According to official police reports, the tragic event unfolded in Haita Fwil village, situated within the Vwang area of the Kogot district. Investigators stated that the suspect allegedly discharged a locally made weapon, striking his spouse directly in the chest during a heated argument.

What are the key facts surrounding the arrest?

The incident was formally logged at the Kaduna Vom Divisional Police Headquarters on 20 October, prompting swift action from the command. Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan instructed the local divisional officer to deploy personnel to the scene immediately.

Upon arrival, officers apprehended Mr. Dachung and rushed the injured woman to a nearby medical facility, where she was pronounced dead by attending personnel. A preliminary search of the couple's premises yielded a locally fabricated gun along with several live cartridges.

What did further police investigations uncover?

Following the initial arrest, operatives from the State Violent Crime Response Unit carried out a more thorough examination of the suspect's background and possessions. This deeper search led to the retrieval of additional weaponry.

State police spokesperson Alfred Alabo detailed the findings in a media briefing on Friday. "Further interrogation by detectives of the State Violent Crime Response Unit resulted in the recovery of additional weapons, bringing the total number of firearms recovered to three, alongside five cartridges," Mr. Alabo explained.

Authorities have since moved the case file to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive inquiry. The police command assured the public that Mr. Dachung will be arraigned in court as soon as the ongoing investigations are finalized.
