Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has vowed to safeguard every part of the state's territory, promising residents that his administration will ramp up security measures and enable internally displaced persons (IDPs) to return safely to their ancestral homes.
Mutfwang made this commitment on Monday in Jos while formally inaugurating the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council. During the event, he also encouraged party loyalists to deepen grassroots mobilisation as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 general elections.
What security measures are being implemented on the Plateau?
The governor revealed that his administration is actively working to reinforce security architecture across the state to prevent further displacement. He noted that additional manpower is being mobilised, highlighting plans to commission a newly retrained cohort of Operation Rainbow operatives the following week.
Furthermore, Mutfwang stated that at least 800 trained forest guards will be deployed within four weeks to bolster safety in rural and vulnerable areas.
"One of the things we have waited for is to get more boots on the ground, and by the grace of God, next week we are going to commission a new batch of retrained Operation Rainbow operatives," Mutfwang said.
"And in another four weeks, we are going to also release at least 800 trained forest guards. We are determined to ensure that our people return to their ancestral homes."
The governor expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his sustained concern regarding the welfare of citizens and his backing of state-level security initiatives. He appealed to residents to maintain patience and trust in his government's capacity to restore lasting peace.
What is the outlook for the 2027 general elections?
Shifting focus to the electoral landscape, Mutfwang urged members of the campaign council to take the party's message to every community, ward, and local government area. He emphasized that his administration requires a second term to consolidate ongoing developmental projects.
Expressing his backing for President Tinubu's re-election bid alongside his own mandate renewal, Mutfwang described the political movement in the state as a unifying platform.
"We are talking about a unification movement, that Plateau people have decided in 2027 to go one direction. And we have chosen that the wings on which we have chosen to fly in 2027 are the wings of the APC," the governor stated.
Earlier in the proceedings, the Plateau State APC Chairman, Rufus Bature, commended members of the campaign council for accepting their appointments. He charged them to run a peaceful, fact-based campaign devoid of violence, reminding stakeholders of the state's peaceful heritage.
