President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed a statement expressing deep sorrow over the passing of Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, a centenarian and former Afenifere leader, describing him as a moral beacon and champion of true federalism.

President [Bola Ahmed Tinubu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bola_Ahmed_Tinubu) issued a personal statement of condolence after the death of Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who died at the age of one hundred. The statement, signed by the President, called the late elder a father‑figure, patriarch, and the foremost leader of the Yoruba‑based coalition [Afenifere](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afenifere).

In the message, Tinubu expressed sympathy on behalf of the federal government, the people of Nigeria, the Akure Kingdom, the government and citizens of [Ondo State](https://ondostate.gov.ng), and the wider South‑West region. He described Fasoranti as “an icon, a beacon of principle, and one of the last great titans of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s progressive family,” referencing the late nationalist leader [Obafemi Awolowo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obafemi_Awolowo).

The President highlighted that Fasoranti’s century‑long life exemplified integrity, discipline, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to the Yoruba people and Nigeria’s unity and development. From his early career as an educator and school principal to his tenure as Commissioner for Finance in the former Ondo State, and later as Afenifere’s head, he consistently championed true federalism, social justice, and a nation that works for all citizens.

Tinubu noted that Fasoranti risked his own safety to defend the democratic values Nigerians enjoy today. He praised the late leader’s Spartan lifestyle, steadfast principles, and dedication to noble causes, adding that the nation will miss his wisdom, moral authority, and fatherly counsel, especially at a time when such guidance is most needed.

The President recalled celebrating Fasoranti’s centenary on May 11, marking not only his longevity but also a legacy of honour. He remembered a personal meeting in 2022, when he informed Fasoranti of his presidential ambition; the elder predicted Tinubu would become President within his lifetime, a prophecy Tinubu says was fulfilled by God’s answer.

Tinubu concluded by expressing hope that Fasoranti would have lived to see his second term and witness the full realisation of economic growth and prosperity, while thanking God for the late leader’s long life of service, grace, and fulfilment.
