Pyrates Confraternity urges Tinubu, Taraba governor to act on Binari killings

The National Association of Seadogs has called on President Bola Tinubu and Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas to take immediate action after at least 58 people were slain in the Binari community of Karim Lamido LGA, and to halt peace deals that allow terror groups to rearm.

The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) demanded that President Bola Tinubu and Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas intervene urgently after at least 58 residents were killed in the Binari community of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, and called for an immediate end to any peace arrangements that enable armed groups to re‑arm.

The group’s leader, Dr Charles Meribole, issued a statement titled “The Taraba Massacre: Another Bloodbath in Our Nation”. He described the killings as “senseless, barbaric and reprehensible” and insisted that the perpetrators must face justice. Meribole highlighted three core facts: 58 people lost their lives in Binari; the attacks occurred in Taraba State’s Karim Lamido LGA; and the nation has recorded over 20,000 deaths since President Tinubu assumed office on 29 May 2023.

“President Bola Tinubu should recognise that the security of Nigerians is not a peripheral issue to be addressed when convenient or tackled with political rhetoric. It is a central test of his administration’s responsibility to Nigerians and obligation to his oath of office,” Meribole warned, urging the president to translate directives into measurable outcomes.

Meribole also expressed disappointment with the broader response of Nigeria’s political leadership and security agencies to recurring attacks, especially in the north. He noted that the cumulative death toll of more than 20,000 since May 2023 should compel the president, as Commander‑in‑Chief of the Armed Forces, to intensify efforts to end the country’s security crisis.

The statement demanded that the president’s orders to dismantle criminal networks be backed by clear timelines, robust monitoring and concrete penalties for non‑compliance. Any security official found compromising operations, Meribole said, must face appropriate consequences.

In addition, Meribole rebuked Governor Kefas for attending the All Progressives Congress 2027 presidential campaign flag‑off in the north‑west, arguing that the traumatised people of Binari deserve empathy rather than empty promises.

The Pyrates called on security agencies to resume operations with renewed vigor, insisting that terror groups have shown themselves to be remorseless and must be confronted through sustained, lawful actions. They warned that any peace arrangement allowing criminal outfits to regroup, re‑arm or continue atrocities must be terminated immediately.

Finally, Meribole reiterated that the war against terror must be waged with the seriousness it deserves, so that Nigerians can once again live without fear in their own country.
