Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State announced that the era of political conflict in the region has come to an end, calling for a collective shift toward harmony and development. Speaking on Saturday in Port Harcourt during an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign gathering, the governor stressed that continuous strife only hampers regional advancement and inflicts hardship on the populace.
Fubara noted that the state has endured excessive turmoil, pointing out that both political leaders and their followers have engaged in prolonged friction that ultimately left the territory and its citizens at a disadvantage.
"The time of war is over; it's time of peace. We cannot continue to fight and expect the state to move forward," Fubara stated during the event.
What led to this declaration of peace?
The governor explained that the reconciliation signifies a turning point for Rivers State, noting that unity is essential for sustainable growth. He stressed that genuine progress will only materialize when stakeholders choose forgiveness and collaboration over bitterness.
Reflecting on past events, Fubara acknowledged that previous political battles yielded nothing beyond division and widespread hardship, affecting ordinary residents the most while leaders engaged in protracted rivalries.
"We have wasted enough time fighting. Now is the time to build. Now is the time to work for the people," he added, highlighting that the presence of previously estranged leaders on the same platform during the APC rally demonstrates a willingness to embrace a new chapter.
