A faction of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Sokoto State has reaffirmed Zaki Muhammad Tambuwal as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections. The factional state chairman, Umar Faruk, stated this in Sokoto while addressing journalists on the implications of a recent Federal High Court judgment in Abuja concerning the party's leadership and candidate nominations.
Faruk said the Sokoto chapter recognised the leadership structure headed by Nafiu Bala, under which Tambuwal emerged as the party's governorship candidate. He said, 'Consequently, Hon. Zaki Muhammad Tambuwal remains the duly nominated governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Sokoto State.'
Faruk also said Manir Muhammad Dan'Iya was not the governorship candidate recognised by the faction under the Nafiu Bala-led leadership. He maintained that the validity of party candidacies should be determined by established legal and constitutional processes rather than personal interests or unilateral declarations.
The faction urged party members and supporters to remain calm and avoid actions or statements capable of creating confusion or undermining the party's unity ahead of the 2027 elections. Faruk said the Sokoto chapter remained committed to strengthening its structures and grassroots engagement ahead of the elections.
