The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man in Rumuekini community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, over the alleged repeated defilement of his 12-year-old stepdaughter. The suspect was accused of defiling the minor on three separate occasions and threatening to fatally injure both the girl and her mother if she disclosed the incidents. It was learnt that the alleged defilement occurred whenever the victim's mother left the house, with the suspect allegedly taking advantage of her absence to touch the girl inappropriately before defiling her. The 12-year-old girl reportedly kept quiet about the incident because the suspect threatened to eliminate her and her mother if she told anyone what had happened. The victim however made a formal complaint to the community leaders who then got the suspect arrested. Confirming the incident, the Command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said 'The Rivers State Police Command is aware of the reported case of a man who allegedly sexually abused his 12-year-old stepdaughter. The suspect has been arrested and a thorough investigation is currently ongoing. The Command assures the public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves and that appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.'
